Relay day instructions
The relay will start and end on the most easterly corner of the Roath Recreational Ground, next to the children’s play area. Look for the bigmoose gazebo.
Here is a precise what3words address, made of 3 random words. Every 3 metre square in the world has its own unique what3words address.
There is a pay and display car park at Penylan Community Centre nearby – Pen-Y-Lan Rd, Pen-y-lan, Cardiff CF23 5HW, or there is some free on-street parking in the surrounding area (please do look out for resident’s only parking bays and avoid using those.)
Please arrive in good time for your relay leg, at least 15 minutes before you are due to run. On arrival please sign in at the gazebo so that we know who is out on the course. When you have finished please sign out.
The first runners will set off at 1030 so please arrive at the bigmoose gazebo by 1015 at the latest ready to run.
For subsequent legs please keep in touch with your team captain to ascertain when you need to arrive. There is of course a welcome for you to come to the area before your leg to support your team and the other runners. All teams are encouraged to have as many runners as possible to run the final 2.2km together.
At the bigmoose gazebo there will be water and cakes for you to purchase – all funds go to bigmoose. You can pay with cash or there will be a QR code to make a donation directly. There are also several cafes along Wellfield road.
If you would like to bake any cakes to sell please get in touch!
There are public toilets at Roath Pleasure Gardens and next to the play area at Roath Park Lake along the route.
To complete the marathon distance each team will have to run 8 laps of 5km and one final lap of 2.2km.
The 5km lap is – https://footpathapp.com/routes/3C912F80-9740-4AF1-A269-9D56F9639715
The 2.2km lap is – https://footpathapp.com/routes/DF91248E-6266-4C57-947B-A7C82C376B74
Please run the route in a clockwise direction and use the pavement of the road rather than the path inside the park, apart from the last few hundred metres on the rec. PLEASE USE THE ZEBRA CROSSING in both directions when crossing from the pleasure gardens over to Roath lake and back. Be mindful of others, you will encounter pedestrians including children, other runners, cyclists and quite possibly ducks/ geese/ swans on the pavement around the lake! This is a fun run not a race so please don’t put yourself or others at risk for a PB.
Once you have completed your lap don’t forget to sign out at the bigmoose gazebo.
